Laundry

Is fabric softener right for every fabric? When to use it and when to skip it

· 2 min read

غسيل نضيف متطبق في أوضة النوم

Fabric softener is one of the nicest steps in doing the laundry: clothes come out smelling lovely and feeling softer. But not everything in the machine needs it. Knowing the difference protects your clothes and puts the softener where it really counts.

Clothes that love softener

  • Everyday cotton: T-shirts, pyjamas and loungewear.
  • Bed sheets and pillowcases.
  • Clothes that feel stiff after washing.

Clothes that can do without it

  • Towels: softener can make towels less absorbent over time. Use it every few washes, or skip it entirely if you like them extra absorbent.
  • Sportswear and technical fabrics: many carry a care label saying no softener, because it can affect how they wick away sweat.
  • Microfibre cleaning cloths: softener can reduce their ability to pick up dust.
  • Anything whose care label says no. The label always has the final word.

How to use it properly

  1. In its own compartment in the detergent drawer, not the detergent compartment.
  2. Never pour it directly onto clothes, as it can leave marks.
  3. Use the dose printed on the bottle. More won't make the scent noticeably stronger, and it can leave residue on clothes.
  4. Don't overload the machine, so the final rinse reaches every item.

Which scent should you choose?

RAWAQ fabric softener comes in two scents:

  • Cotton Fresh: the light smell of clean laundry. Great for everyday clothes and sheets, and for anyone at home who prefers light scents.
  • Soft Florals: a balanced floral bouquet, if you like your clothes to have a noticeable scent as you fold them.

Or both: Cotton Fresh for the sheets, Soft Florals for your clothes.

In short

Softener is for everyday cotton and bed sheets, and isn't needed for towels or sportswear. The care label has the final say.
